Plants that grow, flower, produce seeds and die in one growing season are called annuals. They may last only one season but they go strong until a heavy frost. You can enjoy them in hanging baskets, planters, or in the ground and they give constant bloom. Plant annuals among your perennials to add continuous color using your taller perennials as a backdrop. A few varieties like Dianthus, Snapdragons, Moss roses, Pansies, Petunias and Alyssum will sometimes reseed themselves. That’s a bonus! Other common annuals such as Ageratum, Aster, Begonia, Browallia, Celosia, Coleus, Dahlia, Dusty Miller, Gazania, Impatiens, Marigold, Salvia, Verbena, Vinca, and Zinnia are sold in 4 plant packs and 48 plant flats for mass plantings. It is the most economical way to plant large garden areas and also make up beautiful planters as they give continuous color that gardeners are looking for. Fancier annuals such as Geraniums, Double Impatiens, New Guinea Impatiens, Non-Stop Begonias, Kong Coleus and more are sold individually. We restock our annuals constantly as new plants become retail ready.

Another category of annuals that everyone loves to plant are Proven Winners ®. They are a collection of the newest, most innovative plant varieties from some of the world’s best breeders. After intense growing trials, only the most colorful, fastest growing, versatile and vigorous plants are selected to bear the Proven Winners ® label. Some of the popular varieties are Argyranthemum frutescens (Butterfly) “Marguerite Daisy”, Calibrachoa (Million Bells), Diamond Frost R Euphorbia, Osteospermum, Supertunia and Nemesia. They can also be planted any where but are most often used in planters and hanging baskets where their stunning blooms can be planted in combinations or by themselves.  We have a great selection of 4 ½” potted Proven Winners ® from which we would enjoy helping you pick out combinations for any of your potted containers. Accent Plants

Some annuals which we put in the category of “accent plants” are non-flowering or have very little bloom and are recognized for their foliage. They may be upright or vine and are used to set off some of the other blooming annuals. Vinca Vine, Springeri, English Ivy and Sweet Potato Vine are among the most common but trying some of the newer varieties like Dichondra, (Silver Falls) a delicate looking silver vine, Wire Vine which has small solid green leaves or Aluminum Plant which is upright and has green leaves with silver accent can be exciting. Part of the fun of gardening is experimenting with combinations using old varieties with new ones.

Whether you are looking for shade or sun, upright or vining annuals, our knowledgeable staff will be very happy to help you pick out great combinations that will beautify your yard. Experiment, have fun and enjoy!
